Recently I was featured on Cincinnati’s Channel 12 news in an interview with Joe Webb regarding schools dropping cursive from their curriculum! Instead, schools will be switching their focus to typing. Naturally, being a calligrapher I feel very strongly about the art of the written word so I was glad to have an opportunity to share my thoughts.

This past Saturday I had the privilege of hosting the CBAS Study Group and the Greater Cincinnati Calligrapher’s Guild in my studio for a get-together! I demonstrated a gold leaf technique and showcased some of the work I’ve been creating. I am three years in and a third of the way through the book - it’s definitely a work in progress! Every page is done on vellum and most have gold leaf incorporated into the design. Scroll through to see a few pictures from this weekend’s festivities!
Here is my dining room table - I used it to display some of the scrap pieces I’ve been using to work out design ideas for the book.
This is a picture of my gold leaf demonstration. The process is a tricky one! If you’re interested in learning how to lay gold leaf, make sure you do your homework and get someone to show you the ropes before you jump right in.

Hey Everyone! This is a project that I’ve been working on for 3 years. A Book of Hours is a 144 page book on genuine vellum (calfskin with 24k gold leaf).
